Mental Health Through Ayurvedic Perspective

Ayurveda is an ancient and traditional medicinal system of Bharat. Ayurveda great deals with entire concept of human life with a principle of healthier, happier life. Ayurveda is a perfect description of The Art of Living”. Ayurveda – “Ayu” = Life and “Veda” = Knowledge, is observed as “The science of Life”. It demands of preparation and continuity care of mental, physical and spiritual health of human beings. Life according to the Ayurveda is a combination of all senses, body, mind and soul.

Ayurveda is a science which has been less explored as a mainstream medicine for many decades now. In the recent past, Ayurveda has largely been studied and opted by the young generation and has extensively explored in integrating modern psychotherapy with ancient system of Ayurveda. When approached with the integrated principles of these two modalities, a natural yet powerful experience of strengthening the mind and body.  Ayurveda is not just limited to physical ailments and symptoms, it is an inclusive approach towards spiritual, mental and social health dimension

Ayurveda, and contemporary psychotherapy approach can rediscover the intense emotions, thoughts that one undergoes with an awareness which bring more clarity to experience our surroundings and situations. Being aware and conscious mindfully itself can bring sweeping changes to our emotional and mental health pattern.

In the present scenario, an approach to an Ayurveda has largely widened including the west and their interest in integrating and inclusive approach towards Ayurveda as a whole science. The sattvavajaya chikitsya (Psychotherapy) is a technique to bring intellect, resilience and memory, as a form treatment of the patients. There are methods and approaches described clearly, which may be extensive to elaborate.

Ayurveda, way of living has largely approved in both western and eastern philosophy of health. The effectiveness of traditional mental health practices and promoting health through integrated holistic approach is identified as best health regimens.
